This your forum for discussion. Although I will toss in questions, I will expect you to be the main contributors to the blog. You are expected to post and comment at least twice (1x each) every time we are in the lab as a class. Naturally, you are required to keep comments germane to the novel and to treat your classmates' opinions with respect. Have fun.

If only I was that far... I am sure I wouldn't like it if I had read it...
All I have to say is EWWWWWWW SICK!!!!!!! But it also shows how desperate people were. But I was more appalled at what Uncle John did to the baby. That was horrifying.
i thought what uncle john did to the baby was awesome. like he said, it was the only way it was ever going to talk.
back to the worst ending ever. i really hated it. nothing was resolved and it left me with a REALLY gross image. i understand that it shows the desperation of people, and what people were willing to do to help strangers, but couldn't there have been another way to show that? and then, what happens to the family? to Al? Tom? Noah? Connie? it left me hanging and i didn't like it.
Agreed, I wish I felt like I had their whole story, instead of just quiting in the middle.
Rose holds the dying man like Mary held Christ's body, so in a way it was beautiful. One person helping another, kind of like showing reassurance and hope. As for leaving everyone hanging, it was kind of a bummer but it also lets us make up our own ending to the Joad's new beginning
ARGH!!!!! it's so incredibly frustrating for him to end the book like that!!!!! i actually screamed "NO" when i read it. i feel like throwing the book, actually...but then again, i just finished
it is sick, but its supposed to be a biblical reference like ry jo said. They represent Mary and the dead figure of Christ. And that is an effective way to do it considering the book's themes and such,....but it's still kind of nasty.
but the guy didn't die...well at least i hope not if she had to breast feed him. i just think that things could have been resolved better.
that's the thing...the biblical refrence is cool and all...and it's great that Rose of Sharon helped him out like that...but the book just stopped...no epilogue or afterword...it just stopped...what happened to the family???
I really think the ending was more weird than gross. There was this long, epic tale of the Joads, with no resolution. And I think it would have been nice if they had had a cup around...
Even though Steinbeck is really big on detail, it seems like as the book goes on, really important events are sort of briefly discussed. Like with Uncle John and the baby, that was a huge event, and before I could really comprehend it, Uncle John had returned to the group.
