Was anyone infuriated by the description of the dead baby:
"On a newspaper lay a blue shriveled little mummy" (603).
How awful.

This your forum for discussion. Although I will toss in questions, I will expect you to be the main contributors to the blog. You are expected to post and comment at least twice (1x each) every time we are in the lab as a class. Naturally, you are required to keep comments germane to the novel and to treat your classmates' opinions with respect. Have fun.

actually...it was a really good description...
you could see the baby in the crate, couldn't you??
(steinbeck's detail RULES)
The mental image he creates is immensely effective, and while Im not into dead baby jokes or anything morbid like that, the baby is important to the overall journey the Joads have undergone.
Alyssa told me this joke last hour:
What's worse than 6 dead babies in 6 trees??
One dead baby in 6 trees.
THAT is imagery lol!!
Yeah... dead babies are no fun, but I think the bluntness of the description made it easier for the reader to imagine what the Joads must have been feeling.
Hey!
What's funnier than a dead baby??
A dead baby in a clown-suit!
dead babies aren't funny.
please stop making dead baby jokes...
...wow...i love you guys....
wow...you guys...i...I have nothing to say to that one...i now remember why I love this class...
I mean it was like a movie, but one that was gross. It was good that it was detailed but bad at the same time. Like a horror book that can scare you with words...that's a good book-one that can mimic the feel of a movie. BTW, that joke is bad.
What's more fun than swinging a dead baby around on a clothesline??
Stopping it with a shovel.
And now.....we are officially done with the dead baby jokes
Good
On the contrary...now I find dead babies particularly amusing, where before I did not. I love this class.
What's worse then a dead baby in a trash can? A dead baby in ten trash cans.
um....yeah....about that baby thingy....yum...very descriptive I guess, but somewhat cruel and unusal...yeah
what's sadder then a dead baby...AP students who find them funny...now that was funny....not really
Wow greenhippolover...that COMMENT was about as funny as a dead baby in a clown suit...OOOHH...how you like them apples?
okay...honestly...enough with the dead baby jokes, it's just cruel. I totally did not like the description in the end of the book, even if it did give you a vivid picture, which by the way was way too vivid...the poor baby... :(
Infuriated? No Discusted? Yes! lol
What is the difference between a dead baby and a water melon?
One's fun to hit with a sledge hammer, the other one's a water melon.
I'm not mean like that, though. I just think it's funny.
The detail that Steinbeck uses is amazing. You could see the image completely and can feel what the Joads must be feeling. And the dead baby jokes arent funny.
