This your forum for discussion. Although I will toss in questions, I will expect you to be the main contributors to the blog. You are expected to post and comment at least twice (1x each) every time we are in the lab as a class. Naturally, you are required to keep comments germane to the novel and to treat your classmates' opinions with respect. Have fun.

Maybe at the time Steinback was just as hungry and impatient as Tom Joad.
Sorry Ana... :(
Stupid Steinbeck. He has no compassion for vegetarians....
Ana would would you do if I wore my squirrel skin hat to school one day?
I think Steinbeck's style is effective because of the intimate details he gives through the entire book. It's just his style
I think the detail was to prove the harsh lifestyle that they were having to live at that time.
aw :( let's all hope for Mr. Steinbeck's sake that there is a deeper purpose to that passage other than to gross out the readers lol.
I agree wit ekl. I think he described that so vividly bc he wanted to show the harsh lifestyle and times they were going through, just like he made a point to say that they didnt have much water.
i hate rabbits, and really liked this passage...i also think that the detail was effective in, like "ekl" said, showing the harsh lifestyle they had to live.
I think Steinback went into way too much detail and description when talking about how they skinned the poor innocent rabbit. I mean we don't need to know everything we did to the poor thing!
as sad as some of his descriptions are...they are certainly a good way of grabbing your attention and not letting go. so does Steinback have a thing for animals? he's no Roosevelt when it comes to nature, that's for sure
ha, ha, your comment made me laugh jesUSAves! how can you hate rabbits? they're so cute and fluffy! anyway, back to the book, lol. i agree that the skinning showed the harsh life style, but i think steinbeck also wanted to use it as a testament of sorts to the pure goodness of living simply, eating what you hunt and enjoying it to its fullest, like reveling in nature...i'm not sure how much sense i'm making, but I know what i'm trying to say :)
personally having come from a big city i find that it hard to believe that people accutally eat rabbits. That's just gross. although even though i think it's gross i think, becuase of all the description he but in to the killing and cooking of the rabbits, that there is some sybolism to it.
You can still hate cute fuzzy things. Bunnies can be really annoying, cause they're all over everywhere.
back to the point... I think that Steinback just loves to describe everything in detail and didn't make an exception to the bunny rabbits.
Steinbeck was just using effective details to describe the rabbits trying to envoke emotion in the reader and obviously he did in you so it was good use of details and descriptive language.
