Antaeus was the son of Mother Earth and Poseidon. When he touched the ground, his powers were revived. Hercules held him up, broke his rib, and kept him up until he died (how sad).
This is what I think: The farmers are Antaeus; they are a part of their land and it gives them strength. Hercules is the dust storm/those that force the farmers off their land; they take the farmers away from their land and kill their spirit. It's a sad analogy.
